i'm an incoming freshman ME. i'm just wondering sino sino mga okay na professors! :D hope you can help. thanks!
for the nat sci classes, they say that ES would be the easiest then chemistry then zoology or botany then physics. it still depends on what you really love from high school. for ME students there will only be one section open for every nat sci class hence you cannot really choose your prof.
is there a chance that Dr. Queena Lee-Chua will be my Math prof or does she teach specific blocks only? And I'd like to have Missy maramara as my Lit prof. is that possible? BS Lm here

those subjects are pre-enlisted. so tsambahan lang talaga. i also don't think freshmen are allowed to transfer classes...i'm not sure though!
@zandx: It depends on the teacher. I had Physics as my NatSci for the second sem, and the lecture teacher (I forgot the name, haha) was lenient towards us. I had tons of fun in Physics Lab, though. :D
@roookie: Yup. :D

>> Sadly, Mr. Peralta is leaving for Germany. He will be working for a cancer research institute in the University of Heidelberg, and will remain there for the next four years.
Loss talaga siya. We were literally the last class he handled this past second sem.
>> I didn't take up Physics as NatSci, and neither have I heard of any good Physics profs at all haha :))
>> ES is already getting rigorous. Students used to take ES because it was easy. And it was easy last first sem, but apparently they made it harder now :p
>> NatSci is composed of 2 courses per semester, Lecture (3 units, 3 hours) and Lab (2 hours). It depends, though, on your course. You may have the normal allotment, you may have more, or none at all.
BUT you choose only one NatSci subject per semester and cannot repeat.
>> I'm from ME, and I believe na Dr. Queena teaches not just Ma11. She teaches higher math... like statistics, probability, and a special class for select students known as Ma195g.1 (concentrating on problem solving strategies), which she teaches alongside Dr. Nebres (president of Ateneo).
>> For the entire freshman year, it's highly improbable that you will be able to choose professors. Classes, yes, such as NatSci and PE, but not professors. Actually, for PE, the professor's name is listed beside the class, but you typically choose PE for the timeslot or the sport (there aren't any known terror PE instructors, as far as I know) :p

Ohhh ic! For the natsci subject, so when we enlist we'll only be seeing the time schedule of the particular science subject we're interested in? Or will we also see the professor that will be handling the class at that time slot? THANKS! :)
You will be preenlisted in your major subjects (at least that was the case for me), and the available choices for NatSci will be dependent on the free time slots that these preenlisted subjects will leave.
In essence, you are only given NatSci choices which fit into your schedule. For example, there are a lot to choose from: ES, Chem, Botany, Physics, etc. But due to my schedule's configuration, AISIS made me choose only between ES and Physics.
The variety of NatSci choices is a matter of luck. The only matter of preference for you is the choosing part, among those choices made available to you :(
i think you really can't choose a prof or time slot...just the type of natsci.
but if the choices include Lagunzad for botany or Favis for ES, go pick them! they're 2 of the best teacher's i've had.
usually ang TBA sa first day of class niyo pa malalaman :)) you can check the profs in the "class schedules"

I had Lagunzad for botany lec, and she's nice, really energetic, and knows her stuff well. A lot of memorization though, but really worth it. I learned lots of useful, non-plant stuff from her too. :D
Based on experience, and those of my friends from the lower batches, Physics isn't a very good NatSci to take. Most of the teachers I've heard of aren't very good. EXPECT TO FAIL. Or get a low grade, at least. Not because they're demanding. Most of the ones i've heard of (including my own prof) are just bad at teaching. Sorry. :(
Environmental Science is pretty easy, but the prof I had for lecture class made quizzes that forced you to memorize a lot of concepts and terms from the textbook, which I wasn't very fond of. Take Araulla for ES Lab. Kaya siya. I don't know if he still teaches, though.
Usually your semestral project for ES lab would be growing and taking care of your own plant. :p
I've heard that Chemistry is challenging but kinda fun too.
If you want to make sure you get a good NatSci class, choose Chemistry. Regardless of the professor, I am pretty sure you will have fun with chemistry, especially during lab sessions! Chemistry classes are held in air-conditioned rooms.
You're lucky if you get Mr. Peabody! He is one of the coolest profs I ever had. He discusses chemistry through real-life stories and experiences, I never want to miss any of his lectures.
You also get to make ice cream in Chem Lab! :D

Get ES and Botany as NatSci subjects, they're prolly the two easiest among them. But just because they're easy doesn't mean you have to take them for granted--ES could be easy if you pay attention to class or read and understand your book. :P Also for ES lab, I got Villa last sem, and as long as she knows your name and you talk a lot of sense in most of her oral presentations, you get an A. :P
And Botany.. I haven't really taken that class but I do have a lot of friends who did. They say it's really easy and you learn a lot of practical stuff compared to the other NatSci courses.
OH AND BIOTECH. In case you get stuck with BioTech or chose to be in that class--you're lucky if you get Julian as a prof--his classes are difficult, but he's a really nice guy. His lectures don't leave you hanging. XD The thing in BioTech is you really have to understand how to apply the lessons in certain situations--like crime scenes for example. Oh and you also have a fieldtrip. ;)
ES. Kaso mas maganda ES sa second sem, dahil mas mahirap na subjects mo nun, thus you need a lighter natsci. pag tinake mo Es ng second sem, kasabay niya En12, Fil12, calculus (kung BS ka). Kung ayaw mo naman kasabay ng Ma11 (if you're in AB) ang mahirap na natsci, go for ES sa first sem. Pag-isipan nang mabuti.

Back in freshman year, I chose ES and Chem for Natsci. We got Ma'am Unson for ES and Sir Peabody and Chem respectively. Both of them are really good. Ma'am Unson usually requires active participation and preparation for pop quizzes, but no long tests, and it isn't that hard to get a good grade in her class. As for Sir Peabody, he has much to talk about usually, and his discussions usually deal with current events in relation to chem principles which you can actually apply in real life. :D
MR. PEABODY is probably one of the best CHEM professors in Ateneo. You'll learn a lot, he's soooo cool plus if you study a bit, super Aable! Actually he's an easy A & B+. Love him! :)

really? THANK YOU LORD FOR THIS TEACHER! :) everybody loves Peabody! :))

He would really love it if you bring old newspapers to class coz he recycles it or something. Don't be overwhelmed with the exams he gives though, most of them span from 300 - 400 item tests! But these are super easy. Ask upperclassmen who took Peabody as their chem prof, and they might give you their old testpapers. You can start studying from there:)
Tip: His exams always has essay questions like "How does soap work?" or "Explain the polarity of water" and they're worth 25 points each. But he'll explain these to you well during discussions, so take notes!
For the next sem, dont dont dont get zoology or biology as your natscis. Take ES. :)

sana may getting to know each other ang freshies at the rest of the upperclassmen para makilala namin kng sino ang pwedeng mkatulong sa amin.. :P
hahaha. that's one of the reasons kung ba't kumpul-kumpol na magkasama yung mga freshies palagi... don't hesitate to ask questions though. once you have an org you'll have upperclassmen you can rely on. :D
i got ES and chem primarily bec. only ES, chem and physics were given as our options. Based on what I've heard, zoo and bio are usually more objective and pure memorization. :)

SCIENTIFIC names pa nga pala. hahaha :)))) i planned to take ES po as my natsci this sem. unfortunately, naubusan ako ng slots :| thats why i chose chem instead of physics.
