"IF THE ORSEM WOULD BE DELAYED-----THEN IT WOULD MEAN NOTHING ANYMORE."
Just my two-cents' worth guys. i mean, it's true : what would the orsem mean, therefore, if it would be moved on a later date?
Come on, it's all about touring the campus, all about introduction to the school that would be your alma matter, all about knowing your fellow schoolmates, all about knowing all what you need to know BEFORE officially entering the school they call The Ateneo.
if the first day of classes happen before the OrSem what would the orsem mean then? i thought this school year would be grand and special? what would it mean now? it can still be special but never extraordinary.
to ADMU : Please don't take this very special event away from us. What about the long preparations the orsem committee made? What about the anticipation and excitement this event has stimulated upon us incoming freshman?
Undrstand my stand. i know many of the freshmen feel for me.

I agree with this, yet the Ateneo would have to make a choice really. Should they risk their new students? Should they delay classes (meaning being behind other colleges in the academics)? Etc etc

may mahahawa pa rin kahit na i-move man nila ang mga malalaking events tulad nito. kung may carrier nga ng virus sa LS, then tlgang may malaking chance na may mahahawa sa kanya. what they should do instead is to find ways to prevent carriers to get inside the LS and not move big events like this. the orsem is not just a big event, but it is an important event for us freshmen since it would be guiding us about college life in Ateneo, the campus, etc.
and not just orsem would be affected. how about enrollment? physical enlistment? in large groups pa rin naman yun mangyayari eh.

If theres rle an outbreak, why not cancel EVERYTHING then?? My point is, we're like sealing up ONLY ONE of the numerous holes a roof has. Like Rad said, what about enrollment?? what about the everday classes?? It's supposed to be all or nothing, in short. That's why i dont get Ateneo with their plan.
Of cousre, since it's impossible to cancel also the enrollment and classes, it means we'll still be practically under the threat of this swine flu anyway. Cancelling such an IMPORTANT event won't totally keep us safe. So what's the use?

Ateneo is trying to balance things. The Ateneo is trying to resume normal operations while trying to minimize the spread of the disease.
Cancel everything ~ Ateneo falling behind while other colleges resume classes Postpone ORSEM ~ Ateneo is waiting for the virus to minimize its threat then launch ORSEM
Why postpone ORSEM and not classes? ORSEM has a bigger group in one place thus a bigger chance of an outbreak as opposed to regular classes where people are spread around the campus.
Just my two cents

One more thing, diba. may requirement tayo for the LS Health services. Yung Flu vaccine. Hindi siya directly for A(H1N1) but then, it's a precautionary measure already.

i agree. and to think we have gone through the required medical procedures. and i doubt a carrier of the strain would still pass the medical examinations. moreover, the confirmed carriers of the said virus were all from abroad and they are already monitored by the department.
and tsaka if they plan to postpone big events, then they might as well postpone the classes since each day of classes is literally a big event in the sense that more people is involved. well, they still have the final say on this.
[sawa na ako sa mga school rallies. uso yan sa batch namin eh.]
GO QCSHS BATCH09 !! hehe.

I'll just go snatch an upperclassman and force him/her to orient me somehow mwahaha *__*
Kay, that would be mean. HAHA :D But don't be shy about asking around during the first week. It's better to ask than to actually get lost.
OrCore should be doing something by now regarding this. Siguro a marshalling thing/ more information booths would be really helpful during weeks 1 and 2. :)
Let's all be optimistic :D We just gained 3 days of summer! We can get to know our blockmates when the block lists are out na or we can PAAAARTAAAAY! :D

Triple agreement. Why is OrSem moved when the first day of class involves even more people? =/
i think that they'll be moving the first day of classes rin. since that won't only involve freshmen, but the upperclassmen, faculty and staff as well. the more, the merrier for the virus. marami syang mapupuntahan. lol.

I guess that what we're seeing is too much paranoia by the community to H1N1. Quite frankly, there are even more deadlier diseases that are just as easily spread when compared to this flu, such as tuberculosis, malaria, dengue, cholera, typhoid, hepatitis A & B, and encephalitis. There are more cases of these diseases in the country than "swine" flu. H1N1 is an Overrated disease. The activities must push through. I am willing to take the risk of getting sick on OrSem, no matter what disease it may be. Joining the OrSem is worth it. It's a once in a lifetime activity.
Let's start a petition that would force the school officials to allow the pushing-through of our OrSem. Power to the People! Power to the Freshmen!!!!!!!!
Personally, I would find getting lost and exploring the campus, having to ask around, making new friends not only because we want to but because we have to, learning about college parlance on our own and interacting with our blockmates and classmates of our own accord much more fulfilling and even more exciting than the OrSem.
Think of it this way -- if the OrSem would come after the first day of classes, then it will have a greater potential of bonding people together: it would then have become a gathering of acquaintances and friends than of mere strangers. Sobrang saya 'nun! Not to say that that is better than having the OrSem first, though, just saying that it will never be meaningless or pointless no matter when it would happen.
so, we'll step in at school without knowing anything. i believe that entering college is really huge and all. Maybe that's the reason why ALL universities have orienations. though not clearly stated, AN ORIENTATION IS A MUST FOR A FRESHMAN. Universities won't have these otherwise. IT'S NOT BECAUSE IT'S FUN--IT'S BECAUSE IT'S A MUST. it's direly needed.
but with all these things happening, i guess we all just have to live with it. IT IS WHAT IT IS. face the natural dilemma, and adjust.
Agreed! They could be nice and move the first day of classes so the OrSem can be held during the 15th and so on. Hahaha. Just a suggestion. I know it's malabo to happen, pero it's not impossible.
