I think I saw "Athenaeum" in the diploma of my brother. And "Athenaeum" came from the Greek goddess of Wisdom, "Athena" :)

For me, the Ateneo is a place where magis, growth and change are promoted.

it wasn't always called Ateneo :))

(nakinig noong art history class hahaha)
Escuela Pia Manila
Escuela Municipal de Manila
Ateneo Municipal de Manila
now Ateneo de Manila

and it used to be in Intramuros. Then it burned down, moved to Ermita, Manila (the grade school rebuilt, still in Intramuros).

it was destroyed during WWII, when Manila was carpet bombed, and moved to Loyola Heights QC.
food for thought..it's still Ateneo de Manila even though it's not technically in Manila anymore :))

There's a sign in Intramuros where Ateneo used to be and a brief history a bit more elaborate than what i just posted. XD
