Hi! I'm not from QC or anywhere near Katipunan so I don't know the places to hang out in which are near the school. I'm gonna be dorming so i'll be spending most of my time in the Katipunan area and I was wondering what the malls nearest the school are and stuff. Suggestions on how to get there from Ateneo would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
sizzling pepper steak, kourtyard kaffe and flaming wings are good options. i like flaming wings' wicked oreos. you ought to try that if you haven't yet. :D
Oh. Question. How do I get from Katipunan to Makati? [Maybe... Ayala Station?] I'll be switching to MRT diba?
Tama ba route ko? [Sorry, self-formulated. HAHA]
Katipunan---Cubao---lipat ng line---I forgot the next station---Ayala
After going down sa Cubao station in LRT, you lipat to MRT sa gateway (dun ka dadaan sa loob ng Farmer's Market) tapos sakay ka sa MRT Cubao station heading Taft Avenue then baba sa Ayala station. =] Pagkababa mo ng Ayala, nandun na yung SM Makati, Glorietta, and Greenbelt. Magkakatabi! XD
Or if you want to go sa ibang place naman, go to TriNoma heading North Ave (MRT).

@Dawn: Thaaaaaaaaaaaaanks alooot! :D I'm thinking to just go to Ayala station para dun nalang ako sunduin to avoid the traffic sa may C-5. Sobrang traffic pag-gabi e. :| Oh well, halos half-day everyday naman ako e. WAHAAHAHA.
@mcdonut: thanks for that. okay then when i get to mcdonalds, how do i go about finding the station, and what landmarks do i have to check to get there? i'm not familiar with the place eh kaya i need marks like mcdo and stuff.

Oh oh oh. I haven't been to Trinoma. XD When I get off NorthAve, do I have to walk-walk-walk to go to Trinoma or its just ... there? HAHA.
No problem. ^^ I don't really recommended using the MRT at night time though, mga 4 PM - 8 PM. Rush hour! sobraaaaaaang sikip. as in. lahat nagtutulakan. Parang naging weapon yung elbows nila, even women. They're like sardines being forced to fit in one can. T.T
When you get off North Ave, TriNoma na yun. =]
Mcdonut, do you use the street in between Mcdo and Shakey's to get to Aurora Blvd?
The last time i commuted from ateneo I took the tricycle to ministop then walked to the LRT. I forgot all the stops from the LRT/MRT though. Don't commute much Dx I HAVE to learn how to commute to and fro xD

turn right from mcdonalds then keep going straight. you'll see ministop near the end of the street. At the end of the street turn right and keep going. The station will be right after a school named St. Bridget.
@Dawn: nope, the street takes you into xavierville. just follow katipunan and you'll be fine :D

Ministop? A tricycle from Ateneo? How much would that cost?
@mcdonut. thanks again :) just a last question: i'm on google earth and i see the station, mcdonalds and ateneo. don't i go left from the street to get to the station and not right? it just seems that from the map i have to go left to reach the place marked as LRT2 Katipunan station...just a question. i could be wrong though...
You'll be in Gateway after getting off the station. Cross the connecting bridge on the 2nd or 3rd floor (can't remember at the moment) and you'll be in Farmer's Plaza. Walk a bit and you'll end up in MRT Araneta-Cubao.
BTW, besides Gateway and Farmer's, there's also Ali Mall.
From MRT Araneta Cubao, Southbound train, these are the stops in order and the places near them: Santolan-Annapolis -- long walk to Greenhills Shopping Center and Promenade. Ortigas -- Short walk to SM Megamall, bit of a long walk to Robinson's Galleria in the opposite direction Shaw -- Connected to Shangri-La Mall, EDSA Central Boni -- Short walk to Robinson's Pioneer Guadalupe -- One jeep ride to Rockwell Power Plant Mall. Buendia -- no idea. :p Ayala -- SM Makati, Glorietta, Greenbelt Magallanes -- no hang out place here, unless you want to walk for a bit to Magallanes Plaza Taft -- Connecting bridge to LRT1. If you want to visit your DLSU friends!
From MRT Araneta Cubao Northbound: North Ave -- Trinoma

hmm...
from google earth...
McDonald's is on the left side of Katipunan. So based on the map, you head south following katipunan and then you head west upon reaching the corner.
Pareho lang sila. Iba lang orientation ng google earth kaya parang left. Pero pag street level na, pag dating sa kanto ng aurora and katipunan, right turn :)
@howlpanda: I'm not exactly sure since I don't really take the train all the way there but I'd put it at around 40mins - 1hour. Depends on how fast you get a ticket at the Cubao station D:

@Ariela: you can take a jeep from Magallanes to Bicuts, although i dunno where to find it. It will pass thru the west service road and then diretso sa SMB yan so you can ride a trike there home.
you can also get off at Ayala station and take a bus to Bicuts. It will stop at SMB din. I THINK you can catch this bus from Magallanes too, but i'm not sure since i haven't done that. i have done the whole sucat-ayala and vice versa bus thing countless times, tho, so i'm sure.

@Kat: I think alam ko narin. [But I doubt I'd get to do this. :))]
Ateneo --- Katipunan Station --- Cubao Station ---- Magallanes Station --- Taxi nalang pauwi! HAHA [I don't know how to go SM Bicutan from here :)) ]
We're from Paranaque btw. :))
TALAGA!?!?!? Bicutan din ako!!! But I dorm during the schoolyear. I go home on weekends. :P
FX route (safest route in my opinion): Sa MRT Ayala Station, may 3 stairs pababa when you get out of the station. Go right, may FX shuttle terminal papuntang Bicutan.
P45 ata isang sakay. It's worth it because it's safer (and possibly faster) than taking the bus. Pero, Monday-Saturday lang sila available. And they only start their service in the afternoon until mga 9:30PM-10:00PM on normal days. Pero pag sobrang traffic, at mahaba ang pila, nagsasakay sila even until 11-12AM.
The Bicutan route passes Skyway until Bicutan, and the first stop drops everyone off at SM Bicutan. After nun sa service road na ata dumadaan, mga bumababa ng Astra.
The Russia route passes the service road until Merville, passes by Moonwalk, tas hanggang dumating sa Dona Soledad cor. Russia, nagbababa rin ng mga tao sa Shell. Pwede ka pang magpababa kung saan man sa Dona Soledad after that. Malamang dumadaan rin ng SM Bicutan yun pabalik sa Ayala eh, pero mas mabilis yung Bicutan route kasi dumadaan ng Skyway yun. Usually I take the Russia route dahil nakakatamad magtrike :))
Bus route: Ayala MRT again, pero take the left stairs. Bus stop yun.
P11-13 ordinary fare ata.
You can go to pretty much any MRT station, may mga bus na nakasulat "Sucat/Bicutan." People would recommend waiting sa Ayala bus terminal though. You can also take a bus from Magallanes, pero you have to walk back a bit to get to the bus stop. The farthest that I was able to get a Sucat/Bicutan bus was from Robinson's Galleria.
Jeepney route: I've never taken a jeepney home from EDSA, pero meron ngang mga jeep raw sa Magallanes, they probably pass sa service road until SMB. You can also take the MRT til Taft, cross the connecting bridge to LRT1, go down, tawid sa kabilang side ng kalye, walk a bit sa jeep terminal. Nagsasakay sila until SM Bicutan rin.
If you want to visit your UST friends, take LRT2 Katipunan until Pureza, just outside is a trike/pedicab terminal. Just tell them you're going to the UST overpass. Pero, P20 per person yun kahit ilan pa kayo.
@Johnnie Walker: Oh em gee, ubber-life-saver ka na talaga! [And my sentence sounded soooo conyo! =))]
The Russia route would be preferrable for me because I just live 3-minutes away from Russia. If you know Kaberos and the row of beerhouses along with it, there's a subdivision entrance just in front, I live there! =)) HAHAHAHA.
But I doubt I'd get to use this strategy this sem. I can go home 12pm every TTH and Friday so baka pa-sundo nalang ako since wala talagang traffic. :)) [Almost 40 minutes lang from Ateneo to Bicutan. HAHA]
But, really, thanks a lot! I have a back-up emergency going-home plan. Mwaha. >:) HAHA

Sakto! Dadaan talaga yung FX doon papuntang Russia. :D
And, yes, 30 minutes ang record time namin from Bicutan to Katipunan by car. Pero pag sobrang traffic naman pwedeng umabot ng 2-3 hours. :s
Me and my english blockmates used to hang out at Blue Skies, the computer shop with Rock Band facilities (YEHEY!!!). It's located in the street beside KFC. :D:D:D!
inside school: -matteo (not MACCI) -som mall/jsec -caf up/caf down -ISO caf/cervini caf.. yummy food nila dun -MVP -zen garden(where freshies usually hangout in groups) -sec walk
must try in katipunan: - wicked oreos from flaming wings - caramel tapioca in kourtyard caffe - rockband in Frii Spirit/Blueskies/that one in Burgundy Place(not plaza) with blockmates - dance revo in Shakey's - buy one take one zombie in Cantina..i think malapit na mag-end ung promo - drew's, coastnet, cantina, meatshop!..haha - other food establishments in Petron(though mejo malayo) - free wifi: Mcdo(though laging sira), tapa king, kourtyard caffe then, there's: -eastwood via car/cab -gateway via LRT2 (from katipunan station to araneta center station) -trinoma/SM north edsa via LRT2 (katips station then cubao station) then transfer to MRT (cubao staion then north edsa station) -blockmates who live in LGV, La Vista, Varsity Hills, Xavierville
Hanggang Mini Stop lang yung trike, dunno why. The Sanggu has implemented a fare matrix for the trikes pero hindi sinusunod ng mga trike drivers. Sooooooo... a ride on a trike would be at 21-25 pesos. But if the trike driver follows the matrix, lucky for you! Isa lang ata ung nameet kong driver na ganun!
haha nagawa ko na kanina yung commute. from ateneo to paranaque it took me 2 1/2 hours...grabe nga eh. it was my first time pa and i was alone... i had a hard time looking for the LRT station coz i turned right at the street between shakey's and mcdo. PLUS, lumabas ak0o from gate three pa ata...yung may blue overpass? layo tuloy ng nilakad ko.
it sucks for me na ang lapit lapit ko sa ateneo pero ang nag-iisang commute route ko is through U.P. pa. makikita ko lahat ng mga ka-batch ko - most of them are the kind of people who go, "Bakit ka nag-Ateneo?!" paki ba nila.
anyway, sort of OT, pero while nasa commute ang usapan, how bad is Katipunan morning traffic exactly? :|
Where's the SOM mall? Are there shops there? Restaurants?
If you're coming from the SOM parking, you won't miss it. There's a huge sign that says "JSEC" (it used to be called SOM Mall, but it's called JSEC now). It's a strip of (mostly) food stalls between CTC and SEC-C. :D
^ i was wondering if the stalls there are owned/managed by SOM students? wala lang...it would make sense kasi if they are eh. most of the stalls there napansin ko parang iba ibang kinds of asian food.
