I'm not talking about the one in the high school department.
One of my friends was in an English class whose students and professor are on self-quarantine.
My roommate's Biology lab professor is on self-quarantine along with the entire class he taught because one of the students in that class had the H1N1 virus.
Now, what I don't understand is why the school would not suspend classes? I mean it seems illogical to continue our classes if there is already an outbreak on campus. So they impose those who are in the same class with the infected person to go on self-quarantine when they aren't even sure how many students were exposed to the virus? Students walk the corridors, they eat on campus. The location of the virus is not limited to the student's classroom.
I love Ateneo, it's only my third day but I'm starting to really enjoy it. But it's very upsetting to think that they are not concerned enough as to suspend classes when their students' health is at risk.
Not to be a traitor, but DLSU suspended their classes after ONE STUDENT tested positive for H1N1. UST postponed their classes as a precautionary measure. CSB followed the suit not long after. I know Ateneo does not want our studies to be affected but isn't this a little illogical?
I'm sorry if I came off as disrespectful to the school. I really like it here, but it's just troubling to think that my new Alma Mater is not concerned about the health of its students.
The decision of class cancellation is by the discretion of the school and not of the government. This shows that the government trusts the decision of the school whatever it may be. It would be best to wait for the Ateneo's decision regarding this and respect whatever decision it may be.

"We have informed the Department of Health (DOH) of the confirmed H1N1 cases. We have agreed that classes will not be suspended, considering that these cases have been relatively contained and that DOH is moving to a strategy of mitigation. We have been further further instructed to focus our efforts on monitoring the number of students who have symptoms and to notify DOH on marked increases in students who are sick. We will continue to seek DOH advice on proper action."
as quoted from mam cuyegkeng 's memo, "Updates on Cases of Influenza A (H1N1) virus in the Loyola Schools"
Kung magsuspend ng classes ngayon at ituloy after 10 days, sigurado bang magiging virus-free na nyan ang buong campus? It's very likely that after that suspension ay mayroon ulit na macocontaminate. So ano, suspend na naman? And so on? Might as well suspend the entire year, if that's gonna be the case.
This A(H1N1) matter has gone completely out of hand. It's an issue that has merely been sensationalized by the media. More people die of the regular flu every month. People should really stop panicking over this. Take your vitamins, drink lots of water, and you'll be fine. Geez.
