I took these PE subjects before: Intermediate HipHop/Modern Jazz(it's not offered anymore, too bad) Taekwondo Volleyball Dancesport(Ballroom under Ms. Belinda)
I have to say that my favorite was ballroom. haha. Ms. Belinda used to be the champion in Dancesport during the 2005 SEAgames. Super galing nya magturo and super difficult ng steps. :P
Si Ms. Belinda ba yung na-feature sa Nat Geo? Yung sa "About Asia" na program? ?????????
Yes, that's her. So if you take dancesport, you get a SEA Games dancesport champ to be your teacher!
I just have to ask. My HS PE Teacher used to teach college PE and I've been wondering. What if you 'fail' PE or don't do well? And you end up incomplete or or the term used for failing a non-major subject. What would happen?
oh no0o0o0o! i'm totally not much of a swing/boogie person! maybe tango's okay... but we did these dances the whole year round during my senior year! :[ i was hoping we'd have latin ballroom, as in cha-cha,rumba and jive! :[
I took these PE classes...
1st year, 1st sem: Judo -- WORTH IT. Don't be intimidated. The teacher (Sir Ali) is very nice. I didn't know what to expect with this PE but it was really fun! I'd recommend this class; the only downside is that you have to go to the Blue Eagle Gym for this class. It's quite a long walk from the college buildings, especially if you have to walk under the scorching sun. :)) I must say, though. It's totally worth it. Not just for the guys. The girls in my class loved it and OWNED it. Inter-class finals kasi e. The girls won the gold and silver medals in the tournament.
1st year, 2nd sem: Volleyball -- I was forced to take this when I ran out of slots for other PE's that I wanted. It's okay. Not much fun in my opinion.
2nd year, 1st sem: Weight Training for Men -- Mabait yung coach. Good PE, but expect to be really tired for the whole week. For finals, you have to take part in an inter-PE fun run.
2nd year, 2nd sem: Ballroom Dancing (Dancesport) -- there are two coaches to choose from, Ms. Adora and the other teacher. Ms. Adora's class (the one i took) is a dancesport class. It focuses on the competitive side of ballroom. VERY demanding. You might be overwhelmed at first if it's your first time to learn ballroom like me but it's really worth it. I found it really enjoyable once I got the hang of it. You usually get a partner. If you didn't bring one with you, you'll have to choose someone you've never met, which is what I did. Inter-class midterms and finals. Eventually, my partner and I made it quite far through the finals. Totally worth it.
The other class focuses on social dance. I'm not sure what they do there though, but it's probably less competitive.
I really recommend judo and ballroom.
My lazy blockmates took table tennis. Hahaha.
Hi! I'm an incoming BS MGT freshie. I included judo in my list coz of what you have said. HAHA. But i'm also kinda worried that I might fail since (if ever) that would be my first time to take it up. Is it okay to take up sports that you haven't really played before?
Yeah! I never had any experience in judo prior to taking it as my PE. Sir Ali will teach you everything you need to get started. Even the cartwheels. Haha. :p It's an easy A, if that'll motivate you.
I didn't know ANYTHING about dancing before, either. :p

/sorry for the lack of college-term knowledge T_T
If you fail, you have to take another PE. Basically, you must pass/complete 8 units (or 4 classes) of PE
I'm still deciding what PE course to take. I'm thinking Judo, Ballroom or Yoga. Ano kayang maganda sa tatlong yan? Sana hindi ako maubusan ng slots.
Kahit alin. :P Pinaka-demanding lang siguro ballroom, if you take Ms. Adora. Meaning, you'll have to practice and study the dances outside class hours if you don't want to get left behind. Masaya pa rin, though. :)
You could get hurt sa Judo. Fun pa rin. :))

I have heard great things about her in this thread kasi.
waaahh i really wanna go for ballroom for my 1st sem PE!!! pero kng maubusan ng slots, baka magtapdance nlng ako. sabi nila, nde raw mabilis maubos ang slots nun, but it's also a dance naman & I really love dancing, so yun na lang. one of my cousins also took tap dance lessons as a kid & it seemed really fun. :P BASTA, no ballgames for me... :P

When my dad was still studying in Ateneo, he took up Judo for PE. Masaya naman daw, kaso most of the students taking up Judo were boys... Alam mo kung nde lng super aga nung sked ng yoga, magyoyoga ako haha... :P
I think I'm up for the challenge :P

I took up judo last sem without any background in it and got an A. I think Coach Ali really only requires his students to show up for attendance and participate in the sparring and the finals. You'll only fail if you exceed the maximum number of cuts, and an F if you commit a forbidden move during sparring (like something that can injure the back/spine).
What you really need for judo is confidence, because you'll be throwing people around while trying not to harm them too much and preparing yourself for getting thrown too. You'll be doing rolls, maybe cartwheels, stuff like that. Don't worry, the mat's soft, especially the blue ones. :)

Cartwheels? I don't know how to do that! HAHA. =)) I'm kinda petite also, so would that be a problem? And what's exceeding the maximum number of cuts? I have no idea about that. :)
mas madali nga matutunan yung cartwheels if you're petite eh. when i was in HS, i trained sa cheering varsity namin & I was taught the cartwheels. Yun nga lang, d ko na nappractice ngayon so I don't know how to do the cartwheels anymore :(

Every subject has a maximum allowed number of cuts (cuts, meaning absences and tardiness, whether excused or not). Exceed that, you'll be dropped off the class and get a W (withdrawn) as grade
I'm planning to take table tennis, tai chi or yoga. Given my really low random number, is therestill a chance na makuha ko 'yung PE subject/s na gusto ko? :)
Or if not, which PE subjects can you recommend for not so athletic people? :))

Anong pinaka-maagang schedule ng Yoga? Hm. I really don't mind. Hii.

people, may nag-fencing ba? fencing ung skn. problem: vest! mahal un for sure.. eh parang cool kasi ung fencing eh
FENCING HERE! :)) I'm in Section K, TTH 9:00-10:00 [Will run from SEC A to Covered Courts! HAHA]
But my inital choices were Judo and Fencing. :)

Just to share to everyone.
I asked a HS senior of mine what are her recommendations for PE subjects (she's in ADMU too), she said it would be easier to decide on what to not take. HAHA. So here are some "de-commended" PE classes. :)
-Arnis: Your sparring partner will inevitably hit your hands for the first few weeks. HAHA
-MuayThai: Masakit daw talaga sa katawan.
-Fitness Walking: You guys will really walk the whole Ateneo campus. =))
For basketball daw, expect the stuff in varsity training.
