Hi!  I'm from the GUIDON.  Issues are always received monthly, so don't forget to get a copy in the news stands.

Oh, and JOIN GUIDON! :D

Guidon = monthly lumalabas, mabilis maubos, may silver steel stand

Mahirap ba makapasok.. so to speak, kailangan may good writing skills?

Guidon recruitment week is at the same day as Rec Week. You sign up for a staff of your choice (you can have two choices). There will be a GA (General Assembly) where you get to know the editors of the staff of your choices, and the requirements needed for each staff. You complete the requirements, schedule an interview with the editor, and then you wait for the results! smile

Good writing skills are optional. You just need to have a love for writing and a desire to help chronicle history in Ateneo. :D

And you can also join the non-writing staff of the Guidon. Aside from the writing staff, we have Graphic Design, Photos, Business, Externals, Training & Development.

:D

Advantage
  • you'll have a bigger social network
  • you'll get to meet more upperclassmen, whom you can ask for advice when it comes to profs (is the prof a-able, who's the best prof to take in this subject, etc) and other school tasks (like homework, project, etc)
  • more experience/extra-curricular activities
Disadvantage
  • you might not be active in the your other orgs
  • your time will be divided more
  • more responsibilities
Please do note that having many orgs does not entail less time for studying. And that having many orgs mean having lower grades :D It all depends on you, if you can balance orgs and acads :D

http://coacentral.org/coa/organizations/

you could check that for last year's accredited orgs. may descriptions na rin un. last year, binigyan kami ng parang manual about orgs under coa. nakalagay dun ung description as well as membership details.

also, aside from the orgs under coa, marami pang ibang orgs (either unaccredited or is not just part of coa, like ANI) na pwedeng salihan :D

here :D

What's the latest time for classes to end? Would it conflict with org meetings?

NOPE. org meetings/general assemblies are scheduled on Activity Hours set by the school. If I'm not mistaken, its Mon and Fri, 4:30 - 6:00. during that time, no classes will be held (unless it is a make up class scheduled by the prof and the student).

Latest time for classes to end? there is a 6-9 class, actually :D pero freshies will not have that :D

Hi Guys! ^u^ LM Sophy here:

The orgs that I recommend you to join is: first your "Home Org." What is this? This is the organization RELATED to your course. so for like me, a Legal Management student, I joined AteneoLex which is the org for LM students :D Second is siyempre the org that best suits your interest.

Wait for the RegWeek! ^u^ Malalaman niyo kung anu-ano mga orgs na pwedeng salihan :P

Last year the writing cluster applicants had written exams. It pays to know things about the Ateneo--the offices, deans, etc.

Join The Guidon guys, it's really worthwhile. You'll have a chance to meet interesting people. :)

JOIN KYTHE! Hindi hassle dun. Far from it, even. Promise. Parang kabarkada mo lang yung mga members at officers. Some orgs take themselves too seriously. Kythe isn't like that. You'll feel right at home with them. :D

Last schoolyear, they started allowing freshmen to go on hospital visits, so you'll be able to mingle with upperclassmen more often; and more importantly, you'll get to bond with the kids (most of which are cancer patients) more often too. Trust me, hindi hassle yun. You get to choose when you want to visit. Of course, there are retention requirements to maintain, pero hindi sila ganun kabigat.

Word of advice for everyone:

Don't worry about not being able to balance your orgs, your academics, and your social life.

Join as many orgs as you like! Naturally, you may not be able to figure out which ones you like right away. So, collect and select!

As freshies, you'll have a LOT of spare time that we upperclassmen no longer have. You'll get to meet a lot of new people to hang out with, and you'll gain hands-on experience with what it takes to be in your course (e.g. marketing, advertising, entrepreneurship) early on. This experience will go a long way.

If you're worried about giving up bonding time with your new blockmates, why don't you convince them to join the same orgs? Problem solved. :)

well iba-iba ang application processes ng mga orgs... pero for most, you just get an application form then schedule an interview. it's not necessarily separate but a different person would most likely be handling the production applicants and the performer applicants.

if you plan on joining as a performer and not pass the audition, i know most orgs give you the option to join the production staff and participate in stuff like acting seminars, dance practice etc.

Kythe deals with cancer patients while musmos deals with poverty stricken children!
because poverty is a disability!

really really worthwhile!
