Okay. So I have two coursemates [one from my block and another from QQ1] who seem to have gotten basic classes. [MA 1 and EN 10 respectively]
Just to clarify, are their pre-enlistment in basic classes based on their performance on the ACET? And if they do well on the diagnostic test on the first day, do they get to attend regular classes?
[I'm sort of asking too since I might get demoted to FIL 10 if that's the case. HAHAHA]

what will happen when you fail the diagnostic test for math 18 a?
if you fail the diags (i.e, the first 2 LT of Ma18a&b. getting an average of lower than 50 ata), you will be forced to take the slower track, Ma18a for first sem, then Ma18b for second sem (instead of Ma21).
If I pass the EN 10 Diagnostic Test, will I go to EN 11/LIT 13 on the next day after the results are out, or when am I going to go to Regular English?
Your En 10 prof will tell you when to approach the En Dept secretary (at the English Department, First Floor, Horacio Dela Costa Hall). The department secretary will then give you your new english block and a letter for your new english profs.

For Fil11, first day of class. As for En10, no idea
En 10 - first day of class
Math 11 (and also those already in Math 1 I think) - within two weeks
Math 18A&B (just the 6 unit "compound" subject, not those whose curriculum requires just Math 18A for the first sem) - the first two long tests / within six weeks

The diagnostic test for Math11 will also be your 1st long test if you pass it. If you don't you'll get to be in Math1 and the test won't be graded
you can shift to Ma 11 after having passed the diagnostic exam. don't worry, you'll have roughly 2 weeks time to study for it. good luck! :)
Thanks! BTW, I wanna shift to ComTech on my second year, or second sem (is it possible?). Can I take MA 19 in summers? Would I have to pay more TF?
Yup. You can shift to ComTech on your second year. However, you can't take Ma 19 during the summer since it is composed of 6 units. You'll have to take it during your sophomore year, or 2nd semester of 1st year once you've passed the diagnostic exam.

@ WickedGossip: I'm not really sure what happens to your tuition fee when you do get to the regular class. Methinks it would have been covered already. You might want to ask around for that.
@ reginemartha: I don't know what items are covered in the EN 10 exam since I've never taken it. For the Math diagnostic exam, most of the items are HS algebra questions, as far as I can remember. You'll be taking up appendices A and B of the Ma 11 syllabus before the test, which are mostly about exponents, radicals, linear/quadratic eqns, inequalities, absolute values, etc. :)

thank you so much. it really helped. im a bit nervous kasi about it..
For Ma1 students - Don't worry, may pag-asa pa kayong magMa11. The diagnostic test is not that hard if you study, really. You just have to listen well in class and devote konting time to practice. The passing rate is 50% naman, so kaya yan. Tricky nga lang coz if you get like 49 or 48, you'll stay in Ma1 for the rest of the sem.
For Ma11 students - Don't be too lenient. It doesn't mean that if you're pre-enlisted in Ma11, you can go to the test venue empty-handed. You still have to practice, coz it's really competitve. Plus, your score in the Diagnostic Test will be counted as 20% (i think) of your final grade.
But if you feel that you want to go back to Ma1 because your math background is not that solid, you're free to do it. But 1 sem is sayang -- malay mo you'll get at least a B or B+ in Ma11 despite your initial reluctance? The key is to practice regularly :) And you'll get the hang of it later on :)
ANYWAY, remember that you have 2 weeks of rushed HS algebra lecture before the real Ma1 or Ma11 lessons start. So all freshmen will be studying the same lessons, kaya you can have group study sessions coz it's really helpful.
Based on my experience, the class average on the Diagnostic Test results is 60-70. We had someone din who got a perfect score. :)

@ celine: yup. you have to take ma 1 if you don't pass the diagnostic exam.
@ Erika: yes. they enlist you in classes based on how you did in math, fil and eng. for fil, you'll be having your diagnostic exam on your first day, and that will determine whether you will be placed in regular or basic fil. for english, students are automatically placed in basic, regular or merit english, and only basic english takers have a diagnostic exam to give them a chance at getting in the regular track. as for math, everyone will be taking the diagnostic test 2 weeks after a rushed lecture on appendices a and b. an exception holds for ma 18 takers since those who fail the diagnostic exam are placed on the basic ma 18 track (which actually covers a number of units).
