More Event Descriptions:

Council of Organizations of the Ateneo (COA) invites everyone to the Recruitment Week 2009 to be held from June 22 to 26 at the MVP Roofdeck. Student organizations play a central role in the Ateneo education. It is in the organizations that Ateneans learn practical skills, leadership values and grow in the knowledge of themselves and others. Ateneo alumni look back to their organizations as the most fulfilling part of their college lives.


"Ateneo RecWeek provides the venue for freshmen to discover the different student organizations in the Ateneo and to find the organization which may best help them in their college journey. It is also an opportunity for organizations to attract new members and thus continue their traditions and their apostolates." - Fr. Ben Nebres, University President

Hello blue2, we appreciate your enthusiasm! :)

1. RecWeek is open to everyone! All students of the Loyola Schools are ENCOURAGED to join organizations, the Sanggu arms, the publication groups and the COA Executive Team. So go to the venue on June 22 and choose from the wide array of student orgs that suit your talents and interests.

2. NO ENTRANCE FEE! :) But if you join an org, you're required to pay an application fee to secure your membership. Otherwise, you can go to the MVP Roofdeck as often as you like since there will be Cluster Performances and tons of presentations.


For questions, reactions and concerns regarding RecWeek, POST AWAY! :)

Hello thirteen! I have to say that, like the Orsem Core, the RecWeek Core is dynamic, creative and out-of-the-box! :) Expect lots of pakulo during the week itself!

orgs! what i hope to be the soul of my college life. is there a limit on the number of orgs we can join, or do some of the orgs have, i don't know, restrictions (eg. only students from course x can join org y)?

Hello miggi! :) The auds for performing arts organizations (Tanghalang Ateneo, Company of Ateneo Dancers, Blue Repertory, Ateneo Glee Club) and Entablado will be held at different venues, which you will know when you'll sign up. So the RecWeek is your chance to test the waters by signing up with your desired org :)

I believe most orgs will be giving freebies or kits to its new members :) So bring your blockmates there to MVP Roofdeck from June 22-26 :)

Hi crushedblackice:) NO LIMIT on the number of orgs you can join, but experience tells me that as years progress, your 5-6 orgs will dissolve down to 2-3 orgs. Or even you'll end up focusing on one org. Because the element of time conflict is involved, and being part of an organization does not only perpetuate fun times and parties, but also professionalism and efficiency. So, choose well :)

 

About the org membership restrictions: Yes, and most of them are HOME ORGS (organizations purely based on a specific course). These orgs are exclusive to students of a particular course (such as Assoc. of the Comtech Majors for BS Comtech, Management Engineering Association for BS ME).

 

But there are home orgs who allow students from other courses to join such as Ateneo Lex (BS Legal Management), MEcO (BS Management Economics), MISA (BS Management Information Systems), CompSAt (BS Computer Science), AMA (BS Management), ESS (BS Environmental Science) and a lot more. Definitely, there are no cliques or ostracism to non-coursemates :)

@crushedblackice: you just have to sign-up during RecWeek, but they'll probably ask you to bring a portfolio or give you a requirement that you'll have to bring during your interview.

YAY RECWEEEK :D

HI! I'm from Guidon :) During RecWeek, if you want to apply, there will be a booth at the venue where you will be asked to sign-up for a desired staff, then may application form, then there'll be a general assembly of all aspiring applicants where the requirements will be given to you by the editors :) Usually, they ask for portfolios, resumes, and some written reqs :) It's a fun experience

More or less, I think Heights follows the same procedure :)

so just to clarify po, during rec week, we just go to the MVP Roofdeck bringing just our choices...then afterwards na ung mga requirments/orientations kung meron??..

wat tym po generally ang mga recweek days??..i understand na my klase tau lahat...

nd ndi ko rin po mabuksan ung http://coacentral.org..

to tata: wat is the difference between heights and guidon?

Hi Angelo. Just go to the MVP roofdeck during your breaks, and if you have initial choices on what orgs to join, sign up immediately. If you're undecided, you can just go the MVP roofdeck with your blockmates and roam around the place. You might see an org that captures your attention.

 

Basically the RecWeek will run from 8am to 5pm everyday starting June 22 to 26. So punta kayo dun pag breaks just to hang out, since there are presentations and programs prepared for the LS community.

 

For the orientations, general assemblies and other events of your chosen orgs, sila na magdidiscuss sa inyo once you sign up. And the RecWeek Team will distribute manuals to everyone around campus. The manuals contain ALL org descriptions that would be vital for your final decision.

Under construction pa ang COA website, I'll advise persons concerned.

Guidon is the official student newspaper of the Ateneo de Manila University, more centered on journalism, sports, investigate writing, feature writing, but there are also staffs in Guidon that cater to the design and organizational aspect of running a school paper.

Heights is the official literary publication of the Ateneo de Manila University, more on creative writing and fine arts. I think they also have a staff that caters to organizing events 

Both of them are part of the COP (Confederation of Publications)

Matanglawin is the 3rd COP publication. Mata is a magazine in the Filipino language. Their inclination is more on the analysis of pressing national issues, more investigative (but I also think they have parts in their paper for the creative writers).

I think MVP stands for Manuel V. Pangilinan Center for Student Leadership? I'm not entirely sure of the official name [Please, please, please correct me nalang :))]. Its in front of Faura Hall and pretty near to Rizal Library. :)

Hi Red. Super cool talaga ang recweek. Anything other than org sign ups? YES! :) Flight Plans (or more like Program Schedules) will be posted around the MVP Building or promoboards, which contains the list of performances by clusters or orgs. We're not allowed to say more as of the moment, but there are "competitions" that would really entice people to go to the MVP roofdeck as often as they can :)

Yup! Especially that you have 50 orgs to choose from (not to mention the publication groups, Sanggunian arms and other student groups), there wouldn't be a dull moment in the MVP Roofdeck :)

Don't forget that you only have 1 week (June 22-26, 2009) to pick the orgs you'll be in for your college life (or at least for your freshman year).

tip: Look around the MVP Roofdeck first and get to know the different orgs before you choose one (or two, or three) that you want to join.
