Are Kensington locks effective against laptop theft?

I'm talking about these.
http://us.kensington.com/html/1434.html

When going to school, I plan to leave my laptop in the dorm. As of now, I am still unsure where in my dorm to leave it safe in. I'm pretty sure there would be permanent objects such as dining tables and such in my dorm, so I was wondering if these Kensington locks would still be effective against laptop theft, or that I would bring my laptop to class everyday (though PE may seem difficult to protect it.)

Any recommendations how to protect my laptop?

Common sense pretty much secures valuables here. Examples are:
- Make sure you always have a close eye on the laptop
- Try not to be proud with your laptop by showing it off your laptop
- Tag your name on the laptop (this is to avoid mix ups with other people)
- Keep in a secure and hidden place when you're not around

it should help, pero hindi fool-proof. if the thief observes you long enough, im sure he'll find a way to steal your things.

pero usually, laptop thefts around the campus happen to those who leave their things unattended. so the best security is to be vigilant, keep your precious items close. :)
